Annual General Meeting [Tuesday 30th January 2018 @ 17:45] - Whickham Room, Gateshead Civic Centre. 25 members attended this meeting with apologies for absence being received from a further 17 members.

Sunday Walk [7th January] : Rothbury Carriage Drive, Northumberland - Sarah Barlow,  Lyn Boyle, Margaret Andison, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Anne Marie Forster, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ann Hay, Carol Lonsdale, Janice Lowery, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey, Ian Thompson, Joanne Tonothy, Neil Waite, Jean Walker & Steve Walker met up for a 6.5 mile walk around Rothbury, including Lord Armstrong's carriage drive which provided excellent views of both Simonside and the Cheviots, followed by lunch in the Turk's Head.

Whinlatter Fells (near Keswick) : 3rd February - Margaret Andison, Lyn Boyle, Evelyn Brown, David Ellerington, Angela Hammond, Ian Hammond, Phil Harland, Philip Hesketh, Ken Johnson, Carol Lonsdale, Hedley Oliver, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Dek Parmley, Asima Riaz, Roger Smith, Phil Walton & Martin Warriner travelled on the minibus to the Whinlatter Fells, where they met up with Ellen & Mike Morrison. Whilst the lower levellers enjoyed a 7 mile [with 696ft of ascent] walk along beautiful forest trails in order to enter Coledale Beck and a visit to Force Crag Mine, the remainder enjoyed the 8 mile (with 2253ft of ascent) Aiken Beck skyline walk which took advantage of the ridge of fells which sit between the remote valleys of Aiken Beck and Wythop. After visiting Spout Force, the route visited the summits of Graystones (1496ft), Broom Fell (1677ft), Barf (1535ft), Whinlatter Top (1722ft) and Brown How (1696ft).

Sunday Walk [18th February] : Druridge Bay - Margaret Andison, Lyn Boyle, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Emma Farr, Pauline Gertig, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ian Hammond, Carol Lonsdale, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey, Joanne Tonothy, Kerry Walker, Jean Walker, Steve Walker + Caitlin met up at Druridge Bay Country Park where the majority savoured a 7.5 mile anti-clockwise circular walk around the park, along the beach and through the dunes (with coffee and cake at Hauxley Nature Reserve).

Caldbeck Fells [3rd March - Storm Emma unfortunately resulted in the event being cancelled on the grounds of member safety.

Patterdale Long Weekend [8th to 11th March] - Margaret Andison, Linda Boakes, Kay Costello, Lynn Ford, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ian Hammond, Carol Lonsdale, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Ian Storey, Joanne Tonothy & Ronnie Willison savoured the magnificent Lakeland 'winter conditions' mountain scenery and Patterdale Hall Estate accommodation.

Sunday Walk [25th March] : Seaham & Hawthorn Dene - Margaret Andison, Sarah Barlow, Lyn Boyle, Linda Boakes, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Lynn Ford, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Carol Lonsdale, Berni Morrow, Claire O'Sullivan, Nicole Marie Smith, Ian Storey, Joanne Tonothy, Phil Walton & Ronnie Willison enjoyed a 7 mile (with 626ft of ascent) coastal and woodland dene walk (kindly organised and led by Carol Lonsdale) which provided natural, historical and geological interest together with stunning views along the coastline and out across the North Sea.

MartinDale : 7th April - Margaret Andison, Linda Boakes, Alan Bradbury, Jane Brough, Evelyn Brown, Gary Browning, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Philip Hesketh, Ken Johnson, Andy Nixon, Hedley Oliver, Graeme Page, Claire O'Sullivan, Dek Parmley, Kishor Raichura, Asima Riaz, Alan Ross, Roger Smith & Martin Warriner travelled in Club transport to Howtown where, after meeting up with Louise Harlanderson, Richard Harlanderson & Mike Morrison, the majority followed the suggested 11 mile natural horseshoe [with 2902ft of ascent] route visiting the summits of High Raise (2634ft), Rampsgill Head (2581ft) and Angletarn Pikes (1875ft). The remainder followed the beautiful Ullswater Lake Path to Glenridding and returned to Howtown aboard the Ullswater Steamer.

Sunday Walk [22nd April] : Letah Wood (Hexham) Margaret Andison, Sarah Barlow, Lyn Boyle, David Etherington, Heather Forster, Martin Forster, Ian Goodman, Nat Goodman, Bernadette Morrow, Andy Nixon, Carol Lonsdale, Claire O'Sullivan, Kerry Walker, Jean Walker & Steve Walker enjoyed a visit to Letah Wood near Hexham where wild daffodils bloomed.

Evening Walk [Monday 30th April] : Kibblesworth - Ian Black, Anne Marie Forster, Martin Forster, Ian Hammond, Linda Hammond, Gordon Harlanderson, Louise Harlanderson, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey, Jean Walker & Steve Walker met up at Kibblesworth for a 5 mile walk through woodland to High Urpeth.

Tilberthwaite : 5th May - Margaret Andison, Lyn Boyle, Evelyn Brown, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ken Johnson, Carol Lonsdale, Hedley Oliver, Claire O'Sullivan, Asima Riaz, Roger Smith, Ian Thomson, Jean Walker, Stephen Walker & Phil Walton travelled on the minibus to High Tilberthwaite, where after meeting up with Alan Bradbury, Ellen Morrison, Mike Morrison & Ronnie Willison most opted for a 9 mile (with 3042ft ascent) Greenburn Horizon walk which visited the summits of Great Carrs (2575ft), Swirl How (2630ft), Black Sails(2443ft) & Wetherlam (2502ft). The low levellers opted for the alternative 8 mile (with 600ft ascent) linear walk from High Tilberthwaite to Coniston which visited Little Langdale, spectacular disused quarries at Hodge Close and the ever beautiful Tarn Howes.

Sunday Walk [13th May] : High Force, Low Force and the River Tees from Bowlees - Margaret Andison, Sally Barker, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Emma Farr, Anne Marie Forster, Sharon Hill, Ailie Langston, Jan Liddle, Carol Lonsdale, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey, Denise Thompson, Neil Waite, Jean Walker, Steve Walker & Caitlin Wilson met at Bowlees Visitor Centre for a 7.5 mile (with 850ft of ascent) walk to Low & High Force.

Evening Walk [Monday 14th May] - This event was unfortunately cancelled as a result of a lack of bookings being received.

Ullapool Week [Saturday 19th May to Saturday 26th May] - Margaret Andison, Lyn Boyle, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ian Hammond, Ailie Langston, Carol Lonsdale, Malcolm McVey, Mike Morrison, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Kishor Raichura, Ian Storey, Joanne Tonothy & Jean Walker spent a highly enjoyable week in the stunning loch and mountain location of Ullapool in Wester Ross.

Kentmere : 2nd June - Evelyn Brown, Gary Browning, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Ian Hammond, Ken Johnson, Carol Lonsdale, Hedley Oliver, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Kishor Raichura, Asima Riaz, Alan Ross & Ian Thomson travelled on the minibus to a very misty Kentmere where the majority opted for a visit to the almost empty Kentmere reservoir. Meanwhile a determined few completed the 12 mile (with 3730ft of ascent) skyline circuit of the remote Kentmere valley.

Evening Walk [Monday 11th June 2018 : Tanfield Railway - Bob Dixon, Joanna Krzysztofik, Graeme Page, Jean Walker, Steve Walker, Brian Williams & Caitlan Wilson enjoyed a 4 mile (with 301ft of ascent) walk across fields which afforded spectacular views across the Tyne valley and beyond. A return was made alongside the Tanfield Heritage railway.

 

Sunday Walk [24th June] : Swaledale Hay Meadows from Muker - David Ellerington, Anne Marie Forster, JimMcCahill, Pat McCahill, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey & Neil Waite basked in wall to wall sunshine as they enjoyed a 6 mile walk (involving 1092ft of ascent) through Muker Hay Meadows, alongside the Swale to Keld with a return to Muker via Kisdon, which offerered fine views of upper Swaledale.

Newlands from Littletown : 7th July - Margaret Andison, Anne Beryl, Jane Brough, Evelyn Brown, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Lynn Ford, Ken Johnson, Carol Lonsdale, Hedley Oliver, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Dek Parmley, Kishor Raichura, Asima Riaz, Ian Thomson & Ronnie Willison travelled on the minibus to Littletown in order to savour one of the most scenic horseshoe (11 miles with 3587ft of ascent) walks in the Lake District. The lower levellers enjoyed an ascent of Cat Bells followed by a linear walk to Keswick via Derwentwater.

Evening Walk [Monday 16th July] - As only 2 bookings were received, Graeme Page & Ian Storey reluctantly decided to cancel the scheduled evening walk.

Sunday Walk [22nd July] : Hannah Hauxwell Wild Flower Meadows - Jen Cole, David Ellerington, Lynn Ford, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Carol Lonsdale, Ellen Morrison, Mike Morrison, Claire O'Sullivan, Ian Storey, Ian Thomson, Jean Walker, Steve Walker, Ronnie Willison & Caitlin Wilson met up at Balderhead Reservoir for a 5½ mile anti-clockwise route (with 750ft of ascent) walk to the summit of Goldsborough and Hannah Hauxwell's wild flower meadows.

Coniston : 4th August - Margaret Andison, Sally Barker, Anne Beryl, Lyn Boyle, Alan Bradbury, Evelyn Brown, Jen Cole, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Lynn Ford, Ailie Langston, Carol Lonsdale, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Dek Parmley, Kishor Raichura, Asima Riaz, Alan Ross, Roger Smith & Ronnie Willison travelled in club transport to Coniston Fells where the more adventurous completed a 10 mile (with 3350ft of ascent) Coniston Horizon walk with visits to the summits of Dow Crag (2552ft), Coniston Old Man (2633ft), Brim Fell (2611ft), Great Carrs (2575ft), Swirl How (2630ft), Black Sails(2443ft) and Wetherlam (2502ft). The remainer travelled on to Hawkshead where, after meeting up with Louise Harlanderson & Richard Harlanderson, they completed a 8 mile (with 1442ft ascent) walk which visited the Quaker Meeting House at Colthouse together with the "needs little effort yet yields much delight" summit of Latterbarrow (803ft).

Evening Walk [Monday 13th August : Derwenthaugh Park - Jen Cole, Theresa Costello, Paula Duffy, Asima Riaz & Ian Storey enjoyed an exploration of the Derwent Walk Country Park.

Sunday Walk [19th August] @ 10am : Alston, Garrigill and the River South Tyne - As only 2 bookings were received, Carol Lonsdale & Ian Storey reluctantly decided to cancel the scheduled evening 8.5 mile low level walk (with 562ft of ascent) along the River South Tyne from Alston to Garrigill.

Ennerdale : 1st September - Margaret Andison, Anne Beryl, Evelyn Brown, Jen Cole, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Phil Hesketh, Carol Lonsdale, Hedley Oliver, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Kishor Raichura, Alan Ross, Ian Thomson & Martin Warriner travelled on the minibus to Ennerdale Water, where they opted either for a 10 mile walk (with 2993ft of ascent) up onto the mist shrouded summits of both Haycock (2615ft) and Steeple (2687ft) or a the lower level 8 mile (with 1504ft of ascent) circuit of the 150ft deep Ennerdale Water, one of the smallest glacial lakes in the District.

Evening Walk [Monday 10th September] : Penshaw Monument & The Victoria Viaduct - As only 2 bookings were received, Theresa Costello & Asima Riaz reluctantly decided to cancel the final 2018 evening walk.

Sunday Walk [16th September] Roman Wall - Margaret Andison, Paula Duffy, Ian Hammond, Lestryne Keenan, Anne Marie Forster, Andy Nixon, Claire O'Sullivan & Asima Riaz met up at Once Brewed for an enjoyable 7 mile walk (with 809ft of ascent) up onto the Roman Wall.

Glaramara : 6th October - Margaret Andison, Evelyn Brown, Jennifer Cole, Kay Costello, David Ellerington, Ken Johnson, Ailie Langston, Josie McGinley, Andy Nixon, Hedley Oliver, Claire O'Sullivan, Graeme Page, Dek Parmley, Kishor Raichura & Grethe Taylor travelled on the minibus to Borrowdale where they opted either for a visit to Watendlath or a 8.5 mile (with 2733ft of ascent) higher level walk to the summit Glaramara (2,569ft) and a return to Seathwaite via Styhead Gill.

Sunday Walk [21st October] : Border Ridge - Margaret Andison, Anne Marie Forster, Carol Stonehouse, Ian Storey & Kerry Walker met up at Carlcroft Farm, Upper Coquetdale, for a 8 mile (with 1565ft of ascent) RED walk which will follow a section of the Pennine Way and Border Ridge to the west of Windy Gyle.

Helvellyn by the ‘Edges’ (Striding and Swirral) : 3rd November - this event was cancelled as participants would have been exposed to 50mph+ winds both on the high fells and when travelling to the venue in Club transport.

Sunday Walk [18th November] : Hethpool Linn & Yeavering BellMargaret Andison, David Ellerington, Lynn Ford, Anne Marie Forster, Ailie Langston, Carol Lonsdale, Ian Storey, Neil Waite & Ronnie Willison met up at Kirknewton Village Hall for a lovely six mile BLACK walk (with 1473ft of ascent) to Hethpool Linn waterfall, on the College Burn, followed by a climb up Yeavering Bell (Hill of the Goats).

Caldbeck Fells : 1st December - As only 2 bookings were received, David Ellerington & Kathleen McIntyre reluctantly decided to cancel the final 2018 Saturday event.

Sunday Walk [16th December] : Warden Mill - Unfortunately the absence of an event co-ordinator resulted in the final 2018 Sunday event being cancelled.
