Bannisdale - But where, you may well ask, is Bannisdale? One of a series of parallel dales in the south-east corner of the Lake District, its undulating terrain remains the preserve of avid fellwalkers who delight in their own company. This territory has little in common with the rugged heartland of the Lake District and is more akin to the extensive moorlands associated with Pennine walking. Striding out along the gently shelving backbone in this untamed wilderness the suggested 11 mile walk (with only 2000ft of ascent) provides members with an exhilarating tonic. Although on the outer fringes, Bannisdale lies at the heart of all that is precious in the Lake District.
