Skiddaw [12th October] is the fourth highest mountain in England and is also the oldest in the Lake District with geology dating back over four hundred millions years. Most people fall in love with Skiddaw after admiring its iconic pyramid shaped bulk from the Keswick. The suggested route to the summit (with only 2090ft of ascent) takes advantage of the Lattrig car park which, at almost 1000ft, reduces the amount of ascent of Skiddaw by a third; this is by far the easiest route to the summit of a 3000ft mountain in England and is therefore ideal for members wishing to enjoy a ‘mountain’ without the usual associated difficult ascent. The views from the summit to the ‘Back o’ Skiddaw’ and Keswick are simply awesome.
