Great Langdale. Although often simply referred to as Langdale, the epithet 'Great' distinguishes it from the neighbouring valley of Little Langdale, Great Langdale has spectacular views of, in particular, Dungeon Ghyll Force waterfall, Harrison Stickle and the Pike of Stickle. One of the best known features of Great Langdale are the Langdale Pikes, a group of peaks on the northern side of the dale. For as long as man has gazed upon the Langdale Pikes they must have been revered. While each fell has a character in its own right, together they are greater than the sum of their considerable parts. Both a [black] 8 mile circular walk with 3095ft of ascent via Pike of Stickle (2323ft), Harrison Stickle (2403ft), High Raise (2500ft), Sergeant Man (2414ft) and Blea Rigg (1776ft) and a much easier [red 6 mile linear walk via Stickle Tarn and Blea Rigg to Grasmere with 1775ft of ascent are suggested on this occasion.
